1994 Italian GP #12 Johnny Herbert

Fortunes went down for Team Lotus in 1994. During the season, they came up with a successor to the aging 107C. But sadly, reliability and pure speed was not good enough. This was mostly caused by a lack of development caused by a lack of money...

Team's season was plagued by financial problems, apart from the sad losses of Ratzenberger and Senna in general. During the Monza weekend, they decided to switch to the new ZA5D version of the Mugen engine... It was lighter and had a lower center of gravity and it was more powerful. This allowed Johnny to qualify on 4th position! But his race was over at the first corner due to an over-ambitious Irishman... The day after, Team went into receivership...

Lotus 109 Planned Modifications

The Shunko curbside kit needs some modifications to build the Monza spec car...

Planned modifications

Scratch front wing based on parts of Type 107
Scratch front wing end plates from 0.5mm styrene (white metal parts of kit are waaaaaay too thick...)
Modify rear wing end plates (thinned from 1mm to 0.5mm, shortened and lower front edge shape corrected)
New upper rear wing element made from parts of the 102B and 107B kits (Monza low downforce version)
Barge boards and supports made from 0.3mm alu
Add gear selector for semi-automatic gearbox and some knobs to steering wheel
