1/20 Lotus 102 Lamborghini

1990 Japanese GP #12 J. Herbert

Since some time, I'm looking into the possibility of scratch-building a 1990 Lotus 102 Lamborghini. The base will be a 1/20 Tamiya Lotus 102B with some work required as listed below and a self-made decal sheet. At first, I considered a curbside build, as I have only few pics of the engine available. Ken Chan mentioned the possible use of a McLaren Honda V12 engine as a donor to cast (something similar to) a Lamborghini 3512 V12 engine. The only available V12 Honda engine in 1/20 scale by Tamiya is that of the MP4/7, called RA166E/B. One difference is the Honda has 75° Vbank and the Lambo 3512 has 80° Vbank, but I don't know if this difference is very visible.

Another idea is to scratch build the engine based on the 1/24 Hasegawa Larrousse Lamborghini kits. This is probably the best way in terms of accuracy. I think I will try that...
