Started with the dry-fitting of the transkit parts...
I scratched a new dash board on top of the 102B part with two 0.3mm styrene sheets.
The steering wheel of the 101 (and the 102) was a special piece from Momo with a flattened bottom. I cut the 102B steering wheel and added the flat bottom with a styrene rod. Looks good to me!
I worked on the Front suspension. Rear parts (suspension, engine, transmission) need more rebuilding. The undertray was not wide enough so I had to add a bit width with polyester putty. That meant much sanding, sanding and more sanding :-( But it's ok now.
Gearbox / transmission area is now almost complete. There was serious rework needed here, since the 102B had a completely different gearbox (Lotus/Lamborghini transversal gearbox)!!!
I completed the cockpit assembly with Modeler's seat belts. This is the last time I will use these because the fabric is just disappointing... I tried to seal the borders but to no avail. There are still threads visible. Anyway, I made some seat belt decals on my MD-5000 for the shoulder pads.
I also completed the flattened bottom steering wheel, which had some very visible tire marking and a drivers info sheet at the center. I replicated this features with self made decals.
I built a complete new cockpit dash from styrene sheets, the 102B part serving as backing here. The 101 had a digital display and analogue RPM meter, whereas the 102B had only analogue instruments.
I've now almost finished it. The kit is completely painted and polished. I made some scratch parts like the rear wheel hub caps.
I also managed to assemble most of the parts. I'm using the superb Lotus 99T wheel nut/spindle kit from Paul Raterink / Thunder Valley on this kit. These are truly great! It's a shame these parts were painted in black on the real car...
