Lotus 100T nearing final assembly

Preparation

I opened the exhaust ends in the undertray, will be hardly notable on the finished model, but I know they're here. I removed the molded-in washers from the monocoque. They will be replaced by real washers later.

The S27 kits still need much more time for early preparation than the usual plastic kit... You need to fill gaps and holes, rescribe panel lines etc.

Decals and PE

I'm using the FMD Lotus 99T/100T decal set and some washers from the 99T Perfect Parts set.

Undertray decaling

This time I made my own carbon fiber decals using ALPS printer. I just printed black lines on clear decal paper and applied it on undertray surface sprayed with gunmetal. Came out really nice!

Painting and decaling

After much sanding and preparing I finally got the first layers of decanted Tamiya Camel yellow on the parts and body shell. Neither the S27 decals nor FMD are correctly in terms of size. FMD is oversized (and partly wrong) and S27 is undersized in some places. Also the shade of blue doesn't match...

So for the main rear wing decal I was relying on ALPS printing... I first applied a white layer to prevent the base color from changing the decal's color. Then a layer of magenta is followed by two layers of blue to get a color shade nearly matching the FMD decals.

For the dashboard, I again used ALPS decals to bring some life to it. But here, I only used a white decal layer and then overcoated with acrylic Tamiya Clear yellow... Some switches are still waiting to be applied here.

Finally some impressions from the roll bar and the rear light assembly. I used some very tiny Masterclub spherical rivets, diameter 0.6mm for the rear light.

Modifications

Only slight modifications where made:

  • rebuild dashboard
  • self made ALPS decals here and there
  • complete self made ALPS carbon fiber decals on undertray
