Work In Progress

I am always researching and planning projects (I guess, every modeler does this ;-)...
If you have any suggestions, please drop me a line...

Tires and cowling

Last update of the WIP: Made the wheels and tires from Tamiya parts and some detailing.

Started with the decaling of the cowling. This is a modfied Fujimi part.

Project is finished now! Please find pictures in the gallery.

Engine detailing

E-mail Print PDF

With the release of Fujimi's Lotus 97T kit, this conversion continues. I'm detailing and wiring the engine bay now. Not far from finishing...

Some parts came from the new 97T kit, but most are scratch built.

The rear wing end plates are modified pieces of Tamiya's 99T, sanded to shape and thinned and later a second layer of 0.5mm styrene added.

Lotus 100T last steps before finishing

Finishing the kit

I'm about to finish this project, here are the last steps:

I had to repaint a small area of the bodywork because of a damage. Then I assembled the wings and added small bits here and there. Now I consider it done. Pics in the gallery.

Preparation

I opened the exhaust ends in the undertray, will be hardly notable on the finished model, but I know they're here. I removed the molded-in washers from the monocoque. They will be replaced by real washers later.

The S27 kits still need much more time for early preparation than the usual plastic kit... You need to fill gaps and holes, rescribe panel lines etc.

Decals and PE

I'm using the FMD Lotus 99T/100T decal set and some washers from the 99T Perfect Parts set.

Lotus 100T version and available kits

E-mail Print PDF

Race version

I'm working on a 1/20 Studio 27 Japan GP kit. But I decided to build Piquet's race car from the 1988 Hungarian GP, because this version can be depicted with the kit. The front wing, rear wing, sidepods (radiator outlets) and the absence of turbo ducts just fit the kit.

Available kits

Because the car was also driven by Japanese local hero Satoru Nakajima, we got several 1/20 scale curbside resin kits:

  • F-Plan resin transkit (needs Tamiya 102B donor kit)
  • MOA resin transkit (needs Tamiya 102B donor kit)
  • Hobby Base Custom full resin kit (incl. white metal, full decals)
  • Modelers full resin kit (incl. white metal, photoetch parts, full decals)
  • Studio 27 "early season" and "Japan GP" (incl. white metal, photoetch parts, partial decals)
